The Story

About Amaro Nonino Quintessentia

Like many of the best things related to food, drink, and living the good life, Amaro Nonino Quintessentia originates from Italy, from one of the few artisan grappa distilleries left in the country.

So go ahead, take a page from those who know and sip this flavorful, bittersweet amaro as a relaxing ritual before or after meals. Or use it in classic and contemporary cocktails for a truly distinct and authentic taste.

"If you're new to the world of amari, you might want to start with Amaro Nonino Quintessentia. Made by the Nonino family in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy, this amaro, made with herb-infused grappa, is considered by bar experts to be one of the most drinkable." - Lia Picard, CNN Travel

Tasting Notes for Amaro Nonino

A smooth, rich texture and subtle flavor. Tawny and bright in the glass, this mellow, bittersweet beauty offers caramel and vanilla, braced by allspice and bitter orange.

Suggested Serves for Amaro Nonino

Classic: Aperitivo with a slice of orange, or digestivo. Either way, a drink to savor.

Unexpected: Substitute for rum for an Italian-style Mojito with a delicious bitter edge.

Bonus: a Paper Plane by Anders Erickson

Production Notes

Amaro Nonino starts with a special whole grape distillate created exclusively at the Nonino Distillery and vineyards. This distillate is infused with an alluring mélange of alpine herbs and botanicals. Flavors and fragrance of bitter orange, cinchona, galenga, gentian, licorice, quassia wood, rhubarb, saffron, sweet orange and tamarind abound. The amaro is aged in oak barrels for 5 years before bottling.

The Nonino family first created Amaro Nonino Quintessentia in 1992, using their newly crafted whole grape distillate as its base. It has been beloved by spirits and amaro enthusiasts ever since.

History

The Nonino family distillery was founded in 1897. It is one of the last remaining artisan grappa distilleries in Italy. Everything produced at this distillery testifies to its craftsmanship: reverence for time-tested practices and best-quality raw ingredients alongside a dedication to innovation and an almost innate aesthetic sensibility.

This unswerving fidelity to the highest standard was passed down through generations to the trio of Nonino sisters who are now at the distillery’s helm.

Amaro Nonino is featured in several of our curated collections:
